Camas-Washougal Community Chest Announces Public Meeting

The Camas-Washougal Community Chest invites you to a public meeting Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 6 to 7 PM at the Port of Camas-Washougal, 24 South A Street, Washougal, Washington. The purpose of the meeting is to review past activity, plan the next year’s activity and elect board members (four positions are currently up for renewal). The Board of Directors will also be awarding Certificates of Appreciation to major donors who contributed to a successful 2015 fundraising campaign from October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015.

In early March 2016, the Camas-Washougal Community Chest announced the award of 19 grants totaling $72,500 to local non-profit organizations delivering services, exclusively, to children and families in Camas and Washougal. The 2016 grants will fund such diverse services as emergency food assistance, aid to families in crisis or needing emergency services, safe temporary shelter for at-risk youth, summer swimming scholarships and enhancing the habitat of Gibbons Creek in the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. In addition, Campership Awards are being provided to four local Camas-Washougal Boy Scout troops to allow families in need to send their scouts to summer camp.

Some of the non-profit organizations being funded in 2016 include Inter-Faith Treasure House, Children Home Society’s East County Family Resource Center, Janus Youth Program and Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership. Since 1946 the Community Chest has been all about local people helping local people.
